DOUBLE LOCK-STITCH TECHNOLOGY

The term lock-stitch is a commonly used abbreviation for “double” lock-stitch. The prefix double means that there are two threads – one on top and one underneath the fabric – that are tight together to form the stitch. Lock-stitch always requires two threads and therefore there is no “single” lock-stitch technology as opposed to chain-stitch.

In double lock-stitch multi-needle quilting machines all needles operate simultaneously and move exactly the same way.

Every needle has an assigned shuttle underneath the press plate that holds the bobbin. The shuttle runs through the loop of the top thread in the needle and therefore causes the two threads to interlace.

Since the double lock-stitch is a symmetric stitch the consumption of top and bobbin thread is about 50/50 dependent on the thread tension.

DAHMEN offers double lock-stitch quilting machines from 64’’ to 130’’ which equals a metric width range of 162,5 cm to 330,0 cm.
